Implementation
To leave your business successfully you need to:
- Write an Exit Plan with accountability established early.
- Review and revise the plan as your business and personal situation changes. Incorporate an Exit Plan review into your year-end planning meeting.
- Remain true to the plan throughout your ownership interest.
All the planning in the world won’t get you ready to exit your business without this very important next step … Implementation.
Implementation is the most critical point in the process, the point where great ideas and programs, created independently, can fall short of providing a unified, comprehensive exit plan.
A greater challenge comes from the fact that many owners have difficulty creating an exit plan by themselves because few owners have experience dealing with business succession issues. As a business owner, your primary mission is to make the decisions necessary to grow and protect your business, working “in” your business. It is difficult to focus on this at the same time as you implement a plan to pass your business on to a third party, a key employee and /or children. It would be nearly impossible… without affecting the business that you are setting out to protect!
Just as you would never begin an unfamiliar journey without a map to guide you, you cannot begin the process of transferring your business without knowing where to go and how to get there.
Exit Planning Partners will develop, in coordination with your other advisors, a written exit plan. We then lead the implementation of the plan. We will initiate the action items developed in the exit plan and coordinate the efforts of your team of professionals. Using an Action Checklist you will be certain that the individual, personalized objectives set out in the exit plan will be accomplished in a timely manner. Your ability to successfully exit your business depends on implementing the exit plan that has been developed. We call this working “on” your business, not “in.”
At Exit Planning Partners, we help you create and implement a comprehensive exit plan that meets your goals.
